The USN Rainbow Classic, held on 17th of July, was the perfect follow up to the successful USN Millennium show, which set a very high standard at the start of the season. Despite being held on a bitterly cold night, the USN Rainbow Classic still drew 174 athletes and 745 roaring spectators. The high standard of the line-ups once again put the pressure on the judges, who had a night of very tight and competitive judging. The packed line-ups in all divisions required extended elimination rounds to whittle down the field to the final six in their respective divisions.

Spectators witnessed the return to stage of a few top class athletes who had taken some time off from competition to recover from injury. The likes of Johan Boshoff, who is in world class condition, returned along with 2008 World Junior Champion, Freddie Klopper. Freddie is certainly no longer a junior, making a statement in his comeback by winning the super-heavyweight division. However, he narrowly lost out to Boshoff in a tight contest for the overall title.

Our future champions, the U/16 division had a line-up of over fifteen athletes. They were all well conditioned and competed with a youthful spirit that delighted the spectators. The improvement Ivan Paulin showed, having graduated from U/16 division last year to take the u/18 title was amazing. The lean muscle and size he packed on in one year is a great example for the other youngsters, clearly illustrating the fact that if they take this seriously anything can be achieved. Another athlete worthy of a special mention is the O/40 winner, Ferdinand Pieterse who was absolutely outstanding. Congratulations must go to all of the other male athletes who came to this competition in such great condition.

The ladies' divisions were once again huge crowd pleasers, and the crowd's reaction nearly lifted the roof off the building. Special mention goes to Leonie van Jaarsveld who presented her physique so professionally in the Performance Figure Division and look stunning on the night.

A special thanks goes out to all the show sponsors, who are the ones that enabled the WFF/WBBF to host such a high quality event. USN contributed enormously towards rewarding the athletes for their outstanding efforts, so a big thanks goes out to them. A new sponsor for this year's event, BodyQuip Fitness Equipment provided a unique prize, in the form of gym equipment for the overall winners, something that Johan Boshoff was very grateful for.

The ever present Muscle Evolution magazine also needs a special mention for their outstanding and professional approach to the show photography and coverage. Their continued support for the Federation, the athletes and the sport of bodybuilding is greatly appreciated.

Lastly, due to the continued increase in entrants to this popular show, WFF/WBBF President, Tommy Du Rand has decided to make this a pre-judged show in future, to ensure a shorter, more action packed event. So don't miss next year's competition.
