Forty three year old Mark William Rainbow pleaded guilty to possession of anabolic steroids, and 37 other counts when he was caught smuggling product from Thailand into New Zealand.
Rainbow was sentenced in Auckland District Court to five years for misuse of the drug and three months for illegally importing, possessing and supplying. He had marked the drugs as ‘Gay Lube Oil’, giving custom officers the slip, later relabeling it with the name of Rainbow’s trading company, SSIS Pharmaceuticals and sold on to customers.
Rainbow competed in the IFBB and managed a gym Les Mills North East. He was the first bodybuilder from New Zealand to turn professional, competing in the US in the 90’s. He won the title of Mr. New Zealand twice and Mr. Australia once.
